The red jungle fowl has the largest
natural range of the 4 species. There is marked geographic variation,
especially in male plumage and in division of 5 subspecies. It occurs naturally
from Pakistan eastward to
china, Hainan and in eastern India,
Burma and most of Indo-china
and on the islands of Sumatra, java and Bali.
The Grey jungle fowl occurs in western
and southern India;
it is sympatric with red jungle fowl at boundaries of its range.
The Ceylon
jungle fowl is restricted to the island
of Srilanka.
The Green jungle fowl is found in Java; it is
sympatric with red jungle fowl in Java.
